ST. ALBAN’S – PARISH  LIFE

Parish Life brings together and serves the families of St. Albans.  It is made-up of several committees that offer many ways to get to know and serve fellow parishioners.

The committees are organized so as not to require a large investment of time or add financial burden on those wanting to serve on them. They meet occasionally but do most of the communicating through emails.  Welcoming new babies to our parish with a visit and a gift, is a new ministry and one we are looking forward to implementing.  Recognizing events in the lives of fellow parishioners with cards is also new.  The baby gift, cards and stamps will be provided, requiring no financial expenditure for those who volunteer.

This past year we have prepared and delivered meals to several parish families.  Sometimes it is only one meal, other times the need is greater and a meal is brought on other evenings.  There have been a few funerals at St. Albans this year and a variety of receptions have been prepared and served at the church for the bereaved families.

These are very rewarding ministries and especially meaningful to those whose lives they touch. Please join us and see if any of these areas are ones in which you would like to become involved.

Parish Neighbors:

A group of volunteers plan, prepare and deliver meals to parishioners in need of a hot meal. The planning, preparing, and delivering are shared among the group. You help, as you are best able. Many individuals and families in our parish have needed this loving service during this past year.

Bereavement:

A group of volunteers that pre-plan receptions and have agreed to be ready to prepare and host it at the church either proceeding or following a funeral.  Since there is often little notice for these receptions, it is great to have several to serve on this committee.

Book Club

A lively discussion group gathers monthly to reflect on the book selected. Sometimes poetry and short stories are the object of discussion. On occasion the group travels to hear an author speak or for reading events at local colleges/libraries. The focus is reading for enjoyment and for seeking to deepen the life-experiences in which our faith is built. Meetings are normally held on a monthly basis in the homes of parishioners. Listen for announcements or inquire in the Parish Office.

Daughters of the King

Lay women in the Episcopal Church belong to this religious order. They are a group of Christian women who undertake to live by a Rule of Life, incorporating the Rule of Prayer and The Rule of Service. Daughters live this Rule–a discipline that pervades all of life–in home, family, church and beyond. By living under a common Rule, Daughters are aware of growing with other like-minded Christian women toward Christ. Daughters are a group of dedicated Christian women who are trying to follow a life of Prayer and Service to our neighbors. They seek to be women to whom parishioners can look for love and for help in time of need, loneliness, or estrangement. Daughters try to spread Christ’s Kingdom here on earth and remember that Prayer is the foundation from which service grows. Interested? Please speak to the Rector, a Daughter, or Pat Rice for more information.
