Ministry Opportunities for Worship
- Lay Readers/Worship Leaders
Worship in the Episcopal Church works at its best when it includes shared lay leadership. Lay roles in the Eucharist include intercessor (leading the Prayers of the People) and Lay Eucharistic Ministers who read the texts from Holy Scripture and distribute the chalice. Lay persons are invited to lead Evening Prayer and Stations of the Cross offered during Lent. If you would like to assist with worship in any of these ways, please express your interest to the Rector.
- Altar Guild
The Altar Guild is a group of men and women who are called to serve God by preparing and tending the places where the People of God worship. Their work is a thank-offering of time and many talents, a ministry of love undertaken in the Name of Christ. Altar Guild work goes on quietly behind the scenes. What altar guild workers do is often unnoticed because the average worshippers do not ordinarily think about the preparation of the altar and the sanctuary. It is a quiet work. Altar Guild workers prepare for all worship services including morning and evening prayer and the other offices as well as the sacramental rites, but the Sunday Eucharist is the service that involves the greatest effort and the most knowledge.
- Acolytes
The Acolytes are a group of young people from ages 10 years to 18 years, as well as some adults, who offer special assistance to the church during worship. They serve as Crucifer, Torch Bearers, Banner Bearers and Flag Bearers in the church procession at the beginning and at the end of church services. The Crucifer also assists the Clergy in preparing the table for Communion. Acolytes must be trained before beginning service. There is a ranking system to recognize Acolytes as they mature and improve their ability to perform this ministry, with the highest rank being that of Senior Crucifer which Acolytes may obtain their senior year in high school if they meet all requirements, at which time they are presented the Saint Vincent Cross.
- Ushers and Greeters
The Ministry of Greeting is provided by the former wardens of the parish. They welcome all worshipers and give special care to those who are new to us. Ushers serve to distribute weekly bulletins, answer questions to parishioners, collect the offering, and direct people to the Eucharist. If you would like to serve, please contact the parish office.
